According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a divorce happens once every 36 seconds in the United States, which averages out to approximately 2,400 per day. Unfortunately, thousands of separating couples make easily avoidable financial mistakes that affect them for years to come.
According to researchers from the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 40 percent of first marriages and more than 60 percent of second marriages end in divorce. Those are high figures, but they aren’t hard to believe.
Until recently, most people believed that approximately 50 percent of marriages end in divorce. As it turns out, that figure is slightly exaggerated, but that’s not to say the divorce rate isn’t extremely high.
